Abstract

This study explores the role of the Arab press in shaping awareness among the Iraqi intellectual elite during the critical period from 1914 to 1939, a pivotal era in modern Iraqi history. During this time, the press focused on national and pan-Arab issues, contributing to the dissemination of Arab nationalist thought and the reinforcement of Iraqi national identity in the face of British occupation.

The press served as a tool for conveying political ideas and    positions and functioned as a platform for Iraqi intellectuals to express their views on independence and national sovereignty. This contributed to the crystallization of an Iraqi nationalist movement with clear ideological orientations.

As a result, the study concludes that the Arab press in Iraq during that period played a fundamental role in building national consciousness and stimulating political and social movements toward independence. It significantly contributed to shaping the Iraqi national identity in the pre-independence era.
