The Challenges Facing Higher Education in Palestine and the Proposed Solutions from the Perspective of Faculty Members at the Arab American University

Abstract

The current study aimed to identify the challenges facing higher education in Palestine and ways to address them. The qualitative research approach was used, and to obtain the necessary information to achieve the research objective, the non-standardized personal interview was adopted. The research sample consisted of (5) faculty members at the AAUP from different colleges. The interviews showed some results as follows: weak financial resources, weak educational cadres, political instability, social and cultural situation, and weak technical equipment. All of these constitute challenges that will limit creativity and excellence. Based on these results, we can come up with some recommendations, including increasing funding, focusing on scientific research, providing the necessary technical devices to raise the level of education, conducting periodic training for academics, etc.
